Ken and Teresa Graham’s journey began near St. Louis, where they first met at a Catholic retreat for high school students when they were just 16. Their life together took a challenging turn in February 2020 when Ken, at 55, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) has been instrumental in helping Ken and Teresa Graham navigate the complexities of Ken’s multiple myeloma diagnosis. Through various educational webinars and the MMRF patient navigation center, the organization has provided critical education on better treatment options for patients.
Through additional screening, the Grahams discovered Ken’s father and sister have MGUS (Monoclonal Gammopathy of Unknown Significance), a potential precursor to myeloma, and that his mother has smoldering myeloma, another precursor to the disease. Thankfully, Ken’s identical twin brother and stem cell transplant donor has neither condition. This shared fight deeply inspired the Grahams to contribute to the MMRF’s vital work through an estate-plan gift. Ken and Teresa are inspired by the MMRF’s pioneering efforts and commitment to advancing research and providing better treatment options. Their generous support aims to advance research and treatments, benefiting patients like Ken and other families facing similar battles.
This year marks Ken and Teresa’s 37th wedding anniversary and after several lines of treatment including a stem cell transplant, Ken has benefited from a new clinical trial and is now in complete remission. Ken and Teresa’s legacy will not only support ongoing research but will also ensure that future patients benefit from the continued progress in multiple myeloma treatment. Their story exemplifies how personal challenges can inspire meaningful contributions to myeloma research and the pursuit of a cure.
